About our Presenters:

John McBride is the Executive Director of Advancement Operations at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In his current role at SAIC, he oversees a team that does gift processing, prospect research and management, as well as database maintenance and reporting. Experienced in driving philanthropic growth within academic and nonprofit sectors, John is a seasoned leader in prospect management and development. With a track record of success at institutions such as Loyola University Chicago and the University of Chicago, John specializes in crafting strategic approaches to donor engagement and fundraising. His expertise includes pioneering proactive prospect identification programs, developing innovating tools for donor assessment, and leading teams to identify major gift prospects. Recognized with accolades such as the Apra Professional of the Year award, John is committed to advancing philanthropic initiatives while fostering meaningful relationships. Outside of work, John enjoys spending quality time with his three children and engaging in volunteer activities.

Catherine Flaatten, MPH, CFRE, is the associate vice president of prospect development at BWF where she partners with clients to develop creative solutions to their prospect development challenges. Previously, she served in various roles at The George Washington University, most recently serving as the managing director of research and relationship management. Catherine has also worked in prospect development at Share Our Strength/No Kid Hungry, the National Psoriasis Foundation, and the BrightFocus Foundation.

A regular speaker and author, Catherine currently serves on Apra's Board of Directors, Governance Committee, and Foundation Board of Trustees. Former volunteer roles include serving as president and programming chair of Apra Metro DC, chairing the AASP Best Practices in Prospect Development and Apra Membership Committees, and serving on Apra's Body of Knowledge and PD Curriculum Planning Committees.

Catherine holds a BA in International Affairs and an MPH in Maternal and Child Health, both from The George Washington University.

Notes on the Site:

Entrance Instructions: Attendees should enter near the Modern Wing entrance (159 E. Monroe St.) at the West Box entrance. This is the side entrance to the Modern Wing - if you are facing the entrance, West Box is on the right hand side if you go around the outside of the Museum Shop. Security guards will be at the door, but please share with them that you are attending the Apra-IL Fall Conference in the Nichols Trustee Suite. There will be a set of elevators to bring attendees up to the Nichols Trustee Suite. (I've attached helpful photos here - someone from APRA or Jeffrey/Vivian can be stationed at this entrance to guide folks up)
