Apra-IL Webinar: Deciphering 990s

IRS 990-PF forms are a key tool for prospect researchers: publicly available and full of important yet complicated data on prospects with private foundations. Prospect development professionals are often called on to interpret this complex information for gift officers, but it can be a daunting task. This presentation will cover the basics of 990s, including where to find them (paid and unpaid resources), how they can be used in estimating capacity, and how to summarize grants for reporting. This webinar will give a basic grounding on the topic for entry-level prospect researchers, as well as delve into some more advanced topics for more seasoned attendees.

Speaker Bio:

Meadow Fallon began working in development 13 years ago at a local animal shelter in a small shop, providing gift processing and donor relations & event support. Transitioning to gift processing in higher ed at the University of Pittsburgh eventually led Meadow to prospect research in 2016 (while also earning a BA in Social Sciences, with a focus on sociology, psychology, and gender & DEI studies). In 2018, Meadow moved to grateful patient research for the medical & health sciences side of prospect research at Pitt. This experience served her well in 2021, as she moved to a fully remote position at the George Washington University, supporting, among other units, the medical alumni and grateful patient program. Most recently, Meadow leapt at the chance to follow a lifelong dream; she’s now Project Manager, Prospect Research at the Environmental Defense Fund and thrilled to support the urgent work of scientists fighting the climate crisis.
