In the past years, a number of major companies (Groupon, Facebook, and The Carlyle Group) have debuted as publicly traded companies. As an initial public offering (IPO) is a substantial liquidity event, it is important for researchers to track current and potential prospects involved in these companies.

Presenter Catherine Cefalu, Sr. Researcher at University of Chicago, will provide information on a company's often complicated journey from private to public, and how a savvy researcher can interpret and report on it, as well as required regulatory documents, potential pitfalls, and strategies for tracking prospects.

Following Catherine's presentation, the pre-recorded webinar "Money Businesses: a capitalist primer" will cover the industries of money management; lending and investment; retail, investment, and commercial banking; private equity; and investment funds and partnerships.

Presenter Valerie Anastasio, Sr. Advancement Officer at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, will offer a look at how these financial powerhouses interact with one another and with federal and municipal organizations, such as the Federal Reserve Bank.

Following the afternoon's events, join us for a happy hour at Mellow Yellow (1508 East 53rd Street) with appetizers hosted by APRA-IL.
